Before Your Session

Booking and Choosing a Date

Once you've booked your session and paid your deposit, we'll confirm your booking by email and reserve your due date in our diary.

Rather than choosing a fixed session date before your baby arrives, we wait until they're here and then send you our next available dates.

For the sleepiest, curled-up poses, newborn sessions are ideally photographed within the first three weeks after birth. However, every baby is different and we'll always work around your little one's arrival and your family's needs.

What You’ll Receive Beforehand

Before your session, you’ll receive an agreement to sign (for all the boring legal bits!) and a detailed preparation guide. This includes tips on preparing your home, what to wear, and how to get your baby ready. We also answer common questions so you feel confident and relaxed on the day.

Preparing Your Home

You don’t need to do much to get ready. Since we bring everything needed for the session, there’s no need for a deep clean or rearranging furniture. A tidy, comfortable space is perfect. We’ll set up our mobile studio in a cosy corner of your home. We often work in living rooms, dining rooms and sometimes baby's nursery, so don't worry about the size of your house. We're yet to arrive at a home that's not been possible to work in.

We Bring the Studio to You

One of the biggest advantages of an in-home newborn session is that we bring all the equipment and props to you. This means your baby stays in a familiar environment, which helps them feel calm and safe.

We photograph newborns across all of West Yorrkshire, including Leeds, Bradford, Wakefield, Huddersfield, Dewsbury and the surrounding areas, plus some areas of South Yorkshire (Penistone, Barnsley, North Sheffield) and some areas of North Yorkshire (North Leeds, Wetherby, Harrogate).

Here’s what we bring:

  • Professional lighting so we can create soft, natural-looking photos

  • Backdrops in various colours and tones to complement the syle of your home

  • Soft wraps to gently swaddle your baby, keeping them warm, cosy and comfortable and adding texture and depth to your photos.

  • Carefully selected props designed specifically for newborn safety and posing

  • A beanbag designed for newborn posing and comfort

  • Accessories like hats and headbands for subtle, sweet details

" The most beautiful experience for my baby girls newborn photoshoot. Robyn and James are such a lovely couple and really do make the most perfect team together, they created such a calm, warm environment. Robyn is amazing when handling your baby/children so professional, so gentle… our photoshoot was everything I hoped it would be! Couldn’t recommend these two highly enough, thanks again 🤍" - Tanisha from Birstall

The Session Is Completely Baby-Led

Your baby’s comfort and safety is always our number one priority. We always follow their cues throughout the session, which means:

  • Feeding breaks whenever your baby needs them - if you're breastfeeding and feel more comfortable without us in the room we're always more than happy to step out (i know how it can feel in the beginning!)

  • Cuddles and soothing to help your baby feel secure

  • Settling time without rushing, allowing your baby to relax naturally

Because we never rush your baby, the session feels calm, relaxed and enjoyable for everyone. Those peaceful moments are exactly what create the beautiful photographs you see throughout our portfolio.

Family and Sibling Photographs

Every newborn photography session includes time for parents and siblings, we also love including well-behaved family pets wherever it's safe to do so!

Including family members creates beautiful memories and shows the bond between you and your baby.

We’ll guide you gently through poses that feel natural and comfortable. Whether it’s a quiet moment holding your newborn or interactions with siblings, these photos become treasured keepsakes.

What Should We Wear?

Finding something to wear, especially after birthing a tiny human can feel so overwhelming, but it doesn’t have to be. Here are some simple tips:

  • If you'd like your family photos on our neutral backdrop then stick to simple, neutral colors like white, beige, soft grey, or pastels.

  • If you'd like your family photos on our black backdrop the the best colours to wear are darker tones such as blacks, browns, dark greens, navy blue etc.

Top tip for mums: loose, flowy clothing is often most flattering and comfortable. After having our own boys i felt so much more relaxed knowing i didn't have to worry about anything feeling too tight!

  • Avoid busy patterns or logos that distract from your baby

  • Dress comfortably so you feel relaxed during the session

  • For the most timeless looking photos, dress siblings in simple neutral clothing that will work well on a cream fluffy rug.

What Happens After the Session?

After your session, we carefully edit your photos to enhance their natural beauty. Once finished, (usually 1-2 weeks after yor session ) we'll let you know as soon as your gallery is ready to view. You'll receive access to a private online gallery where you can view and select your favourite images and download the amount of photos you chose in your package when booking.

From there, you can also order prints, albums, or more digital files. We offer a range of products designed to showcase your baby's photos beautifully in your home.

"We recently booked a newborn shoot which included our 17 month old. I was so worried as previous shoots have not gone as well but Robyn and James were amazing with him! The communication was excellent prior to the shoot and so friendly/helpful afterwards as well. We were made to feel at ease immediately and they were so patient and friendly with our toddler. The best part of the experience was that it’s in the comfort of your own home and you can care for your baby without any fuss of travelling. I’d wholeheartedly recommend them and we can’t wait to book more family photos in the future. Thank you so much x" - Hannah from Keighley

Frequently Asked Questions

How old should my baby be?

Newborn sessions work best within the first three weeks after birth when babies are naturally sleepy and curled up, However everyones circumstances are different and we have sucessfully posed babies up to around 8 weeks of age. Poses are just adapted to baby's comfort.

How long does a session take?

Sessions usually last 2 to 3 hours to allow plenty of time for feeding, settling, and those important cuddle breaks.

What if my baby won’t sleep?

We are patient, calm and experienced in soothing babies. If your baby stays awake, we focus on capturing those alert, wide eyed moments instead.

What if my baby needs feeding several times?

Newborns go through cluster feeding days, trust me I remember it all too well! We always follow baby's lead, if they need milk, they get milk it's as simple as that. It doesn't matter if it's once or 7 times (with the occasional nappy explosion thrown in!) we'll simply work around your baby.

Can siblings take part?

Yes. Siblings are included in all collections apart from our Mini Collection, they can be added to the mini collection for a fee of £50.

Can we include more family members?

We do advise that only parents and siblings are present as it makes for a less busy, calmer house. However, if you'd like to include grandparents in photos, you can do so for an adittional fee.

Do we have to agree to our photos being shared on social media?

No, not at all, it's always "your baby, your choice" and this is a question that you can answer in our pre-session agreement. Whilst we're always so grateful when you allow us to share your photos, as it helps us keep our portfolios up to date, we would never put any pressure on you to do so and your session wouldn't be any different.

Do I need a big house?

No. We bring all the equipment and can work in cosy spaces, in over 12 years of mobile newborn photography we've yet to arrive at a home we couldn't create beautiful photographs in.

Is newborn photography safe?

Yes. Safety is our top priority. We use gentle posing techniques and never force a baby into any uncomfortable positions. We're trained in safe newborn posing and with two of us present at every session, one of us is always right next to your baby at all times.

If your question isn't answered above, please don't hesitate to Contact Us.
